Provident Fund is a benefit that numerous companies provide to their employees. It is a form of the retirement savings plan. A part of your salary is deducted and deposited in the EPF account and the employer contributes the same to your account. Even a small amount of monthly contribution can end up as a large corpus and will become your safety net during the old age. Your Universal Account Number is very important to use the EPF account. This number will help you log in on the portal and check your balance and get complete information about your savings. The first step to use the EPFO account is to generate a UAN.
Steps to generate UAN
There are two steps to generate UAN– one is through the employer. Your employer will give you the UAN, and some also print it on salary slips. Another method is to generate the number using UAN Portal. The steps are mentioned below.
- Go to the UAN Portal .
- Now click on ‘Know your UAN status’.
- On this page, you need to choose the state and EPFO office. Now enter your PF number or your member ID with additional details like your name, mobile number, date of birth, and your captcha code. You will get the PF number from the salary slip.
- Now click on ‘Get Authorization PIN;
- You will receive a PIN on the mobile number.
- Enter the PIN and click on ‘Validate OTP and get UAN’ button.
- Your UAN will be sent on your mobile number.
Check your PF balance using UAN number
You can check your PF balance online using your UAN. Follow the below-mentioned steps for the same.
- Activate the UAN on the portal and wait for six hours to get the account activated.
- Now on the portal, go to the EPFO website member passbook page.
- Enter your UAN, password, and captcha.
- Click on Login.
- This will open the EPF account.
- On the left side of the page, you need to click on Select Member ID to view passbook and click on the passbook to check your balance.
If you have multiple passbooks in the account, one of them will have the full amount mentioned. All you need to do is find the recent one, and you will be able to check the balance with ease.
